Daniel Tilling
Daniel
Tilling was born in Nyköping, Sweden in 1975 but grew up in
Stockholm. During his first years in school he investigated playing
the piano, cello and oboe but without a great deal of success. It
wasn't until the age of 15-16 that his interest for jazz awoke and
he began devoting his time more to playing the piano. He was lucky
enough to have a very inspiring teacher in Esbjörn Svensson.
He also admired Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson and
nowadays has Thelonious Monk, Red Garland and Ahmad Jamal among
his favourites. His musical education was spent at Birkagårdens
Music School in Stockholm followed by the Malmö College of
Music. It was in Malmö that he began playing with the Fredrik
Kronkvist Quartet, Miriam Aïda Quintet and the Monday Night
Big Band. He returned to live in Stockholm in 2001 and since then
has played with Jess Jazz Group, Peter Johannesson, Ulf Adåker,
Krister Andersson, Viktoria Tolstoy, Rigmor Gustafsson and others.
He was pianist in the Fredrik Norén Band from 2000 - 2002.
